Pictures in "Michael Mulcahy :A Special Connection"
20 Oct 2006 - 29 Oct 2006
In ‘A Special Connection’, Michael Mulcahy's series reveals its connection to the primitive. This recent work is a continuation of a particular theme seen in his solo exhibition at the Irish Ambassador’s Brussels residence in April 2005.
‘A Special Connection,’ also develops the series of heads which this outstanding artist announced in the 2004 exhibition at this venue, ‘Men from Strange Places Bearing Gifts’. Less fantastical than the exotic earlier heads, the works here exhibit a celtic influence yet now more painterly with lush colour. The luminescent or charred Irish faces, like eerie family snapshots stare out, rivetting the viewer.
The paintings are grouped in pairs, representing the masculine and feminine, or as single heads.
