Pictures in "Grainne Macey"
4 Apr 2008 - 26 Apr 2008
Familiar local landscapes; St Helens\' Bay, Rosslare Strand, and bustling shopping days on the narrow Main Street of Wexford Town feature in this first solo exhibition for Grainne Macey.
Heavily layered acrylics are scraped back, and overlaid with more bright pigment to produce deeply textured surfaces of broken colour. The texture looks weathered, fraught and worn like the corner of a kitchen press or a skiff on the beach. Nevertheless, the effect created is dreamlike and nostalgic, like memories filtered through the intervening years.
