Pictures in "John O'Brien"
3 Dec 2007 - 7 Jan 2008
No other painter has shown in Wexford with the regularity and consistent quality of Fr. John O'Brien whose annual October exhibition in the Talbot Hotel has been as much a feature of the famous Opera Festival as fireworks or tuxedos for over 25 years.
He enjoys outstanding popular acclaim and it has been said no Wexford home is complete without one of his paintings hanging in it. Primarily a landscape artist, O'Brien leavens his exhibitions with a selection of smaller still-lifes.
His travels occasionally may take him further afield to France, Portugal, Italy or Bosnia-Herzegovina but always he returns to local Wexford scenes and views from an annual painting trip to Achill. O'Brien works sometimes en plein air but mostly from small sketches and a good memory for effects of light and weather.
